"Standards are the compass for industrial advancement, and craftsmanship is the foundation for in-depth technological development." - As technological iteration and market expansion in the surge protection field enter a critical phase, the revision and improvement of national standards have become key to breaking industry bottlenecks. In August 2025, the ancient capital Xi'an hosted a "standards appointment" crucial to the future of surge protection, with a series of seminars on national standards of the GB/T 18802 series kicking off one after another.

With over a decade of experience in the circuit protection device sector, Ruilongyuan Electronics has always adhered to its original aspiration for the industry and maintained enthusiasm for standard development, actively participating in such initiatives. We have carefully documented every moment and every discussion during the seminar in a journal, not only to record the industry's collective journey of progress but also to engrave the sense of responsibility and commitment as an emerging force in the field.

I. Gathering of Talents in Chang'an: A Convergence of National Standards and Craftsmanship

Recently, a series of national standard seminars in the surge protection field were held in Xi'an. As a new and dynamic force in the circuit protection device industry, Shenzhen Ruilongyuan Electronics traveled to Xi'an with over a decade of experience in protection devices and enthusiasm for standard development. The company was honored to participate in the discussions and deliver speeches at this "National Standard Seminar," making this a rewarding industry exchange journey filled with encounters with craftsmanship, anticipation, respect, and gratitude.

During the seminar, in-depth insights from university scholars, the rigorous attitude of research institutions, and practical experience from enterprise representatives converged and collided, benefiting every participant and leaving a deep impression. Upholding its original aspiration, Ruilongyuan Electronics participated with the humility of a "learner" — not only to witness this important moment of standard iteration but also to take over the "baton" from predecessors and assume the responsibilities and missions of a successor.

II. The Responsibility of Contribution: An Emerging Force in the GB/T 18802.332 Standard Seminar

On August 20, 2025, the seminar on GB/T 18802.332 "Low-Voltage Surge Protective Components - Part 332: Guidelines for the Selection and Application of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV)" was held as scheduled. This guideline is the first systematic document in the field of MOV application, bringing together more than 20 experts for in-depth discussions.

In the morning, Chief Engineer Yuan Yuxiang, representing Shenzhen Ruilongyuan Electronics Co., Ltd. — the proposed leading unit for the standard — presented a report on the translated version of GB/T 18802.332. After the presentation, further discussions followed: issues such as the "inadaptability" of the original IEC text to China's actual application scenarios were identified one by one; the "unified standardization" of MOV terminology was repeatedly deliberated; and the "practical adaptation" of rated energy assessment was thoroughly analyzed. Representatives from Ruilongyuan Electronics listened attentively, carefully recorded every suggestion, and kept a sense of responsibility in mind.

III. Polishing Details: Promoting International Standards to Take Root in the Chinese Market

The afternoon sun in Xi'an was bright, and the seminar entered its second half, focusing on overvoltage and overcurrent protection for MOVs. Experts engaged in heated discussions, covering topics from "how to suppress peak voltage under temporary overvoltage (TOV)" and "how to achieve coordinated cooperation between MOVs and fuses in overcurrent protection" to "how to make selection lists more suitable for China's actual application scenarios." Each topic was closely aligned with market needs, and every round of exchanges steadily advanced toward the goal of "domestic localization."

At the end of the meeting, organized by Ms. Li Yuan from the Secretariat, the proposed leading unit arranged and divided the follow-up work for the standard's translated version. A working group composed of several experts was established to jointly undertake the "final polishing" of the translated text.

IV. Progressing Together: Strengthening Surge Protection Standards Through the Series

During this Xi'an seminar, Ruilongyuan Electronics' journal not only documented the discussions on the GB/T 18802.332 standard but also included detailed records and notes on the two previous meetings, with the comment: "Standards should not merely be copied texts but should effectively solve industry problems."

First was the working group meeting on the GB/T 18802.41 standard. Director Zhao Yang, representing the leading unit, organized experts to put forward revisions to the draft of the "SPD Standard for DC Low-Voltage Power Supply Systems." The "insufficiency of IEC standards in photovoltaic and energy storage fields" was clearly identified, and the meeting agreed to establish a research team to promote the implementation and application of the standard.

Subsequently, the seminar on the GB/T 18802.11 standard was held. Experts reviewed the translated version chapter by chapter and sentence by sentence, and "unified terminology" became a consensus of the meeting. It was planned to sort out and address the "remaining issues" from the old standard one by one. A core working group was established to strive for submitting the revised version of the standard by the end of August, aiming to release the three latest national standards for surge protective devices successively in 2026 and support the technological progress and industrial development of surge protectors.

Postscript: Passing the Torch: The Answer and Future of an Emerging Force

After completing the journal entries about the Xi'an trip, the team at Ruilongyuan is well aware that the path from "anticipating" standards to "participating in" standards and eventually "leading" standards in the future is long and full of challenges. However, we firmly believe that as long as we uphold this craftsmanship spirit, join hands with industry partners, and consolidate the foundation of standards step by step, we will eventually make the "voice of Chinese surge protection standards" more resonant on the international stage — this is the commitment of an emerging force and the answer to the industry's predecessors.
